A painting of the present-day Salem, Massachusetts, station may be found elsewhere
in these galleries ('No Witches Now'), but here we see the one it has replaced, much
more substantial and centrally located - so much so, in fact, that the viewpoint is the
porch of the Hotel Washington. The train is a commuter service northbound out of
Boston, and the locomotive Boston & Maine 1011, one of seventy-seven Class A41
4-4-0s,built 1900-1911, the last of which survived until as late as 1947. The date here
would be sometime in the 1930s.
